Nixon Peabody Partner Anjali Chaturvedi Selected to Serve on Board of Directors for the Council for Court ExcellenceWashington, DC. Washington, DC, partner Anjali Chaturvedi has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Council for Court Excellence. The Council for Court Excellence is a nonprofit civic organization, based in Washington, DC, that works to improve the administration of justice in the local and federal courts and related agencies in the DC area and in the nation by identifying and promoting justice system reforms, improving public access to justice, and increasing public understanding and support of our justice system. The Council is governed by a volunteer board of directors, which includes members of the legal, business, civic, and judicial communities. 12/14/2009 Ms. Chaturvedi is a partner in Nixon Peabody’s Washington, DC, office and a member of the Government Investigations and White Collar Defense practice. She practices primarily in the area of government investigations and defends organizations and individuals in complex civil and criminal matters. Ms. Chaturvedi has significant experience in matters involving fraud, securities, public corruption, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), export controls, national security, the False Claims Act, and immigration issues. Previously, she spent twelve years as an assistant United States attorney. During her tenure as an assistant United States attorney, Ms. Chaturvedi argued appeals in the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and tried more than two dozen jury trials. Ms. Chaturvedi is the team leader of the firm’s multidisciplinary South Asia practice group and co-chair of the Asian Affinity Group. Ms. Chaturvedi also has experience in Congressional matters, having previously served as counsel to Senator Dianne Feinstein on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Ms. Chaturvedi was an adjunct professor of law at the Georgetown University Law Center and the University of California Hastings College of the Law. She has served as a faculty member on the ABA’s Litigation Institute for Trial Training (LITT) program. Following law school, she clerked for the Honorable Gregory E. Mize of the Superior Court for the District of Columbia. She is a member of President’s Council of Cornell Women and the South Asian Bar Association, the Edward Bennett Williams Inn of Court, the Barristers, the American Bar Association, Section of Litigation, and the DC Bar Nominations Committee, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Assistant United States Attorneys in Washington, DC. Ms. Chaturvedi serves as a guardian ad litem in the District of Columbia Superior Court. |
